Only one DLA payment is permitted in a fiscal year, unless the situation qualifies as an exception specified in the JTR, par. 050501. Eligibility is yours to confirm with your finance office.
The MALT rate covers all the authorized travelers traveling in the vehicle.
The paying agency may round differently by a cent.
How the math works
Two payments and one count. DLA comes from DoD’s table; mileage is miles × the rate for your travel date; travel days follow the Joint Travel Regulations.
Mileage (MALT) by the date travel starts$0.205 a mile for travel starting January 1, 2026 to June 30, 2026, $0.235 from July 1, 2026. 2,800 miles from July 1, 2026: 2,800 × $0.235 = $658.00.One amount per authorized car; the rate covers everyone traveling in it. Rounded once to the cent.Mileage rates (PCS MALT)
Authorized travel daysOne day for the first 400 miles. Over 400 miles, the whole distance ÷ 350, plus one day if 51 or more miles are left over: 2,800 miles → 8 days; 401 miles → 2.Per diem for those days isn’t modeled.Joint Travel Regulations (version dated 10/01/2026) (page dated )
A move you make yourself (PPM)The government pays 100% of its own constructed “best value” cost of moving your things. That figure comes from your move counselor’s system, so it isn’t computed here.Joint Travel Regulations (version dated 10/01/2026) (page dated )
Not modeled here
Secondary DLA: Not modeled— The 2026 PDF heads the secondary DLA table “Effective January 1, 2025”, so we can’t confirm those values are the 2026 rates.
Per diem for travel days: Not modeled— the daily rates depend on your route and dates (checked October 13, 2026).
Temporary lodging (TLE, TLA): Not modeled— it depends on your orders, location and receipts.
Household goods weight allowances and other ways family members travel: Not modeled— they follow rules this calculator doesn’t ask about.
PPM payment and its tax treatment: Not modeled— the government’s constructed cost comes from your move counselor’s system, and whether part of a PPM is taxable isn’t confirmed in our research (checked October 13, 2026).
After the move
BAH calculator — compare the housing allowance at the old and new duty stations.
From the agency’s own tables. Pay from DFAS, housing from DoD’s BAH file, VA rates from VA, fitness scores from each service’s current scoring tables — looked up the way the tables read, never interpolated.
Two dates on every answer. The date a rate took effect and the date it was last checked against the agency’s page. A rule that can’t be confirmed says “Not modeled” and why, instead of a guess.
Tested, then logged. The arithmetic runs on one engine with automated tests built from the agencies’ own worked examples; every rate or rule change goes into the public change log with its source.
