Disclaimer
The agency has the last word. Every amount and score on this site is an estimate built from the agency’s published tables and rules on the date shown. What DFAS, your finance office, VA or your service actually pays, decides or records is what counts. Check the official source before you rely on a number.
Not official, and not affiliated
Rank and Pay is a private, independent website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Department of Defense (also called the Department of War), the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, Coast Guard, the Department of Veterans Affairs, DFAS, DTMO or any other government agency. Official rates and decisions come only from those agencies.
Nothing on this site is official Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs or military service data, an official publication, a Leave and Earnings Statement, a VA rating decision, a fitness test score of record or a government form. The tables the calculators use are copies of public tables, read on the date shown and checked against the agency’s own page; the agency’s own version is the official one. The site uses no seal, emblem, insignia, rank insignia or logo of any agency or service.
Not legal, tax, financial, medical, fitness or benefits advice
Rank and Pay provides calculators that do arithmetic on the numbers you enter, and guides that explain in general terms how military pay and allowances, VA disability compensation, fitness tests, retirement, the TSP and education benefits work. This is general information for education. It is not legal, tax, financial, investment, medical, fitness or benefits advice, and it does not take your own record, health, family or circumstances into account.
Rank and Pay is an independent site run by an individual based in the United States. It is not run by an attorney, an accredited VA representative, a tax professional, a financial counselor or a medical professional, and the guides have not been reviewed by one. Before you rely on a result, ask the people who decide or advise: your finance office or DFAS; VA or a VA-accredited representative (free through Veterans Service Organizations); your unit or test administrator; a doctor before you start or change a training program; a military legal assistance office, a tax professional or a personal financial counselor.
Rates and rules change
Pay tables change every January, BAH every year and sometimes mid-year, VA rates every December, and fitness tables and body-composition rules whenever a service revises them. Each tool shows the date its data took effect and the date it was last verified on the agency’s own page — and the change log records every change we have confirmed. A rate can still change between our check and the day you use it. Agencies may also round differently by a cent.
Where a rule could not be confirmed on the agency’s own pages, the tools say “Not modeled” or show a range rather than guess. Pays, deductions, waivers or ratings specific to your record may not be reflected at all.
No guaranteed results
We work to keep the tools and guides accurate, and each guide lists its sources with the date they were read. We can’t guarantee that everything on the site is complete, current or free of errors, or that any pay, rating, score, benefit or outcome will follow from using it. A score shown for a fitness test is not a pass or a fail on your record. Example values in the tools are examples, not recommendations.
